St.Pierre vs Shields Fight: Future Headline of Toronto


The welterweight champion George St. Pierre is expected to be the headline of the UFC’s debut in Ontario, as he is also famed as the Canada’s favorite MMA son. In this fight, St. Pierre will defend his belt against his no. 1 contender Jake Shields at the UFC 129 the St.Pierre vs Shields fight.

There is confirmation from the UFC President Dana White regarding the different news outlets that includes Canadian Press.

The Canadian Athlete of the Year was won by the 29-year-old George St. Pierre for three straight times. He was well thought-out of being the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Being an achiever of eight consecutive fights, at UFC 124 St. Pierre has gone off on a one-sided win over Josh Koscheck a few weeks ago.

This will be marked as the second straight title defense for St. Pierre (21-2 who just recently topped Koscheck in Montreal.

It will be the first time of the UFC to hold an event in the province of Ontario only the St.Pierre vs Shields fight, in which recently the province voted to sanctions for the mixed martial arts. 

 At the Rogers Centre, the UFC 129: St.Pierre vs Shields fight will take place on April 30 and is expected to draw approximately 40,000 UFC fans. The estimated attendance of 40,000 UFC fans will definitely break the MMA’s all-time North American attendance record. The recent record was marked from the UFC 124 with 23,152 UFC fans filled the Montreal’s Bell Centre for the fight of Shields vs St.Pierre.

It was in October which Shields made his UFC debut. He fought hard for a win of a split decision over Martin Kampmann at UFC 21. The famed fighter who has the record of the longest winning streaks in major MMA capturing15 straight wins is the 31-year-old jiu-jitsu expert, Jake Shields. 

At that time, Jake Shields has trampled the notable fighters including Carlos Condit, Yushin Okami, Dan Henderson and Paul Dale. And with these wins this was able to raise his record to 26-4-1. The last loss he had was on December 2004 with a dropping decision to Akira Kikuchi.

In the weekend updates, the MMA fighting has reported the UFC is considering a possible bout between randy couture and Lyoto Machida that will possibly happen at UFC 129. This fight will likely be as one of the co-main event if it will be signed.
