UFC confirm GSP v Shields and Couture v Machida for UFC 129 in Toronto

UFC 129 in Toronto this April will be headlined by Georges St-Pierre defending his UFC Welterweight title against Jake Shields

The fight was confirmed by the UFC following Saturday night's UFC 125 pay-per-view in Las Vegas.

Also confirmed following the UFC's first event of 2011 on New Year's Day is Randy Couture v Lyoto Machida.

Hall of Famer Couture had last month dropped a big hint that he was ready to retire, writing on his Twitter: "Thanks to everybody who's been tweeting about seeing my fights I must have missed the memo :) I think I'm at the end of it Yall. It's time."

Prior to tweeting that comment, Couture had been rumoured to be interested in fighting either Machida or Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.

Following his superb decision win over Josh Koscheck last month at UFC 124, St-Pierre said he was keen to be part of UFC 129.

Speaking after his win over Koscheck last month, GSP said of the UFC's Toronto debut: "I would love to fight, but it depends on the boss. If the boss wants it, I'm in."

Jake Shields had been lined up next for GSP having won on his UFC debut in October, beating Martin Kampmann at UFC 121 with the win earning him a title shot.

UFC 129 takes place Saturday, April 30th at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
