UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields will mark the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first event in Canada’s largest city. It is also expected to break any and all North American attendance records for a mixed martial arts event.
UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre defends his belt against former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields in the main event.
The UFC on Wednesday announced the set-up for its largest venue ever, as well as ticket sales information.
The Rogers Centre, when it was still called the SkyDome, held more than 68,000 fans for WWE’s WrestleMania X8 in 2002. The UFC, however, won’t be scaling its seating up to that type of configuration.
Trying to find a balance between accommodating as many fans as possible, but not diluting the “UFC experience,” the UFC stated they will have 42,000 tickets available when tickets go on sale beginning with UFC Fight Club members on Thursday, Feb. 10; newsletter subscribers on Friday, Feb. 11; and the general public on Saturday, Feb. 12.
Ticket prices range from $50 up to $800. The UFC says the majority of seats at the Rogers Centre will cost $100 or less.
“We are really excited to bring a UFC event to Rogers Centre and want to create the ultimate experience for fans,” Tom Wright, UFC’s Director of Canadian Operations, said. “We are working on specialized fan zones and other unique features that will make this a can’t-miss event. With this card and the level of energy we expect inside Rogers Centre on April 30, UFC 129 is going to be off the charts.”
In advance of tickets going on sale, the UFC confirmed that it will hold a press conference and free fan event at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on Wednesday, Feb. 9. Participants from the UFC 129 main cardare expected to attend.
